Hey Everyone,
We've been anxiously waiting and finally have some news that he seems to be finished with surgery. The nurse told us that he is "off the pump" meaning that he is off the heart/lung machine. Still haven't seen him, the nurse said that we could expect to see him around 5pm tonight. It's been a long day but we've had some great people around us and been thankfully distracted.
As I was writing this Dr. Gouber came in and updated us that everything went well. He said that the surgery took awhile because they spent a long time cooling the body and warming it back up. It will be awhile before we see him and he may not be awake tonight. The overall message was good, they had to do a little bit of a different replacement to part of the arch due to the fact that part of the artery was too difficult to get to safely. Dr. Gouber did what is called an Elephant Graph that will allow the other section to be replaced with less invasive surgery should need be at a later time. But he seemed positive and confident that eveything went well and how he had planned. This is great news.
Thanks for all the warm thoughts and prayers and keep them coming.
James
